On February 6, 2020, the Saeima (the Parliament) of the Republic of Latvia in third reading approved the new “Trademark Law”, which will replace the previous law “On Trademarks and Geographical Indications”, which has been in force in Latvia since July 15, 1999.
The new law introduces into the national law the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council 2015/2436 to approximate the laws of the Member States relating to trade marks. In addition to implementing the Directive, the new law updates the legal framework for trademarks in accordance with the current legal situation and restructures the previous law. We are proud that Bronislavs Baltrumovics, trademark attorney of TRIA ROBIT, participated in the development of the new law as a permanent member of the legislative working group.
